Mangyan Hand-Woven Plate — Large Round Flat Basket

15" diameter · 2.5" depth · Round · Handwoven in Mindoro Island, Philippines

At fifteen inches across, this is not a decorative piece pretending to be functional. It is a working plate — wide enough to serve bread, fruit, or pastries at a table, flat enough to display on a wall, and woven tightly enough to hold its shape through years of daily use.

The Mangyan people of Mindoro Island, Philippines have been weaving nito vine into flat forms like this one for over a thousand years. The technique has not changed because it does not need to. The vine is harvested from Mindoro's rainforests, prepared by hand, and worked in concentric rows outward from the center — a method that produces the characteristic radial pattern visible across the surface of every piece.

Two and a half inches of gentle depth keeps things in place without making it a basket. Contents sit in it rather than on it. That depth is the difference between a plate that works and one that just looks good.

The natural tonal variation across the weave — where lighter and darker strands of nito sit side by side — is the honest result of working with a material that came from a forest, not a factory. Every flat plate woven by the Mangyan will be slightly different from the last. Yours will be one of a kind not as a marketing claim, but as a physical fact.

Serve from it. Display it. Hang it. It is built for all three.
