Mangyan Hand-Woven Cylinder Container with Lid

6" diameter · 6" tall · Cylinder · With lid · Handwoven in Mindoro Island, Philippines

Most containers keep things in. This one keeps things safe.

Woven by Mangyan artisans in the mountains of Mindoro Island, Philippines, this cylinder container is six inches across and six inches tall — proportions that are not accidental. Square enough to feel substantial, round enough to sit anywhere. The lid fits flush and firm, the way a lid should, because it was woven to match the container it covers rather than manufactured to approximate it.

The nito vine used to make it is harvested from Mindoro's rainforests — a material the Mangyan have worked with for over a thousand years. It is dense, flexible when being woven, and rigid once set. Which is why this container does not warp, does not sag, and does not lose its shape the way cheaper woven goods do. The structure is built into the material itself.

Use it for jewelry on a dresser. Tea bags in a kitchen. Cotton rounds in a bathroom. Letters on a desk. Keepsakes in a bedroom. The cylinder form means it sits vertically and takes up almost no footprint — a practical choice for spaces where surface area is valuable.

The lid makes it something more than a basket. It makes it a proper container — the kind you keep rather than replace, that improves with use as the nito vine develops a gentle patina over time.

The slight variation in tone and texture across the weave is not imperfection. It is the physical record of the hands and the forest that made it.
