Sitting easily in the palm of one hand, this lidded basket is one of the most technically demanding pieces in the Mangyan woven collection. Weaving at this scale — tight enough to hold its form, fine enough to carry a clean pattern, small enough that every strand is visible — requires a level of control that only comes from years of practice. The pattern woven across both basket and lid is a radiating stripe — alternating strands of deep brown and natural cream nito vine running outward from the center like spokes on a wheel, or the rays of a sun. It is a different weaving language from the geometric pakudos of the larger storage jar, and just as deliberate. The Mangyan do not weave randomly. Every pattern carries meaning that has been passed down without being written down.

The lid is a flat disc that sits flush and firm on the basket's rim. Lift it and the interior is clean, smooth, and surprisingly deep relative to the basket's footprint.
